Bicycle Tours South East Asia

Since our Australian holidays, the idea of cycling through Southeast Asia is a long-held dream. We did not plan to re-enter overland, but Chase dreams was always one of our weak points. Four years later, we took off on a plane to Bangkok and ten months later, we returned with the bikes.

We walked a lot between flights to see some of the most famous countries for "backpackers", backpackers who travel with dreams and carry a lot of luggage. Although the first days were difficult, they were also enlightening. We crossed the Thai Central Plains in the middle of a flood that had left millions homeless. It was a moment of awakening. They had lost everything, but thousands of Thais welcomed them smiling and welcomed us as friends, not as intruders. Many times, people offered to provide accommodation, food, and drinks for those who were affected by the disaster.

We talked to people, shared our experiences, and smiled. This was entertainment and distraction. We were able to travel to Laos thanks to the kindness of these people. We found the Mekong River, which led us to Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital, the Pearl of Asia. The Khmer, another people who were massacred and amazing, revealed to us the marvels of their tradition and the horrors of madness polpottiana. After a brief period between the southern islands in Thailand, we have thrown out the Muslim world, moving through Malaysia, the most advanced and devastated (from an ecological point of view), of the countries in Southeast Asia.

We had hoped for a tropical country with virgin forests, especially in Borneo. But, aside from small protected reserves and a few other areas, progress has created a flat landscape consisting of one large palm oil plantation. These are punctuated by smoking chimneys.

Indonesia is the largest archipelago of the world. We ended our adventure on two wheels, allowing us to climb up to the volcanoes of Flores after admiring the Bromo Tengger-Semeru National Park cones and the waters off Lombok.

It will be an unforgettable adventure. As is the case with all things, it will be a memorable experience.
